Sat 18th Feb - 11am
JEAN-MICHEL VEILLON - FLUTE
Jean-Michel Veillon was a child prodigy on the bombarde, that piercing woodwind characteristic of Breton music. Later in life, he became interested in Irish music, particularly the wooden flute, which was not played in Brittany. Through his exemplary work with groups like Galorn, Kornog, Barzaz, Den, and Pennou Skoulm, Veillon has made the wooden flute an acceptable instrument in the Breton music tradition.
Jean-Michel will also play a concert in the evening, joined by Limerick University Master's Tutor and flute player Niall Keegan - Your workshop ticket entitles you to entrance to this concert for just £5 on the door.

Sat 3rd March - 11am
MARY BERGIN - WHISTLE
Bergin was exposed to the music of many renowned musicians from an early age, but her style is particularly influenced by flute player Packie Duignan and the whistle playing of Willie Clancy. She plays the whistle "left-handed" and her playing is characterized by great feeling, technical virtuosity, and a respect for the music. Music scholar Fintan Vallely has described her playing as "brightly ornamented but uncluttered", with "crisp articulation."
Mary Bergin & John Carty will also play a concert in the evening - Your workshop ticket entitles you to entrance to this concert for just £5 on the door.

Also on Sat 3rd March - 11am
JOHN CARTY - BANJO
Born in London, John Carty has established himself among the elite in Irish traditional music and as a staunch supporter of its preservation. Carty developed his love for fiddle, banjo, and flute, all of which he has mastered, through his multi-instrumentalist father who was a member of the Glenside Ceili Band in London in the 1960's.
Mary Bergin & John Carty will also play a concert in the evening - Your workshop ticket entitles you to entrance to this concert for just £5 on the door.

Sat, 25 Feb - 11am
MICHEAL O RAGHALLAIGH - CONCERTINA
Mícheál hails from a very musical family in County Meath. He has played concertina and accordion from an early age. Micheál has taught workshops and has toured all over Europe and the USA and was a founding member of the group, Providence. He was also a member of the All-Ireland winning Naomh Padraig and Táin Céilí Bands.

Sat 10th March - 11am
AIDAN BURKE - FIDDLE
Aidan Burke's background is steeped in Irish musical tradition, his parents being Joan and John Burke after whom these Memorial Workshops are named. He can claim heritage with the famous Sligo fiddle players. A highly versatile and skillful fiddle player, he combines old traditional components with innovative and creative stylistic elements. He has vast experience playing all over Europe, the UK and Ireland with his band who present an electrifying ensemble of traditional music including creations of their own.
